As people more interests in qualify of lives in the elder society due to aging, the department seeks to nurture active senior welfare specialists through education of the welfare on social welfare and health approaches. After graduation, the students may become specialists, administrators or public officials in the senior welfare sector.

Program Objectives

People have more interests in quality of lives in their seniors due to rapid aging, increasing social demands for welfare specialists. In particular, the number of super-aged increases due to extending life expectancy and calls for more senior specialists who understand and approach desire of health from the senior. To this end, the department aims at providing in-depth and academic approaches to senior welfare with programs integrating viewpoints from welfare and health.

Educational Goals

  • Nurturing senior welfare specialists who understand various demands from the senior and effectively handle them
  • Nurturing senior welfare specialists based on knowledge and techniques by changing environment surrounding the senior
  • Nurturing senior welfare specialists who respect human, have community-based minds and contribute to developing communities

Education Programs

The programs consist of subjects to understand and approach psychological and social desire from the senior, physical health and environment. The programs are mandatory to understand the senior and their lives, as well as expected to contribute to nurturing welfare experts in the fields with rapid changes.

Department Characteristics

The department seeks to research and realize the senior welfare on multi-disciplinary basis including gerontology, health and social welfare. These approaches reflect current academic trends which understand various desires from the senior in physical, social and psychological aspects and are future directions toward the senior welfare. The university is specialized in sports science and physical education and has the departments of physical therapy, food science and nutrition and life design, providing proper environment to research the senior welfare on multi-disciplinary basis.
