The department nurtures specialists in foods and nutrition for human lives and application to the society. The demands for specialists in foods, nutrition, treatment, anti-aging, growth and weight control, as well as restaurant industries have increased. To meet this trend, the department has paved a road for graduates to take certification of nutritionists, nutrition teachers, food professors, hygienists and cooks. After graduation, the graduates may enter various fields including nutritionists in hotels or hospitals, nutrition teachers, researchers, food stylists, food processors and decorators.
The department aims at nurturing excellent human resources who seek safe food lives, upgrade health and quality of lives and play a crucial role in national organizations, schools and hospitals.
The education programs of the department consists of various subjects including biochemistry, public health, nutritional physiology, nutrition, food science and feeding services. Sitology-related subjects include food science, cooking principles, food chemistry, food analysis and food microorganism, as well as Korean cuisine, foreign cuisine, food quality assessment, food culture and style which research foods and designs. Nutrition-related subjects include nutrition, advanced nutrition, biochemistry, fields researching connections between nutrition and diseases through nutritional assessment, clinical nutrition, dietary, nutritional education, nutritional policies for communities and sports and nutrition. Group feeing, feeding administration, food hygiene and regulations are open for feeding studies. Also, there are other subjects for certifications of secondary school teachers for housework.
As life standard becomes higher, the demands from treatment, food and restaurant industries have increased. The graduates from the department achieve certifications of nutritionists, food processors, hygienists and cooks to work as nutritionists in hotels and hospitals, feeding teachers and researchers, as well as food stylists and food quality assessors. The employment rates for the graduates are 100%. The department guides students into 2 sectors (nutritionists and teachers) to nurture expertise and adopts connections with restaurant industry, as well as encouraging students to have dual majors.
