We foster creative art experts by having facilities for top-class stage art and design and by inviting experts in the field who can provide solid education on comprehensive stage art theories as well as performance techniques. Upon completion, students have a wide range of options of professional careers in fields as diverse as play acting, musicals, films, stage designer or directors and lighting directors.

Education Programs

Our curriculum of theater & musical has three divisions; acting, musical, and design & technique majors. Acting and musical majors acquire basic fundamentals through taking in their first year. During following second and third years, students are encountered with various types of play, musical pieces through to learn basics of acting and performance. In the final year, students experience real show on stages by taking . And aside from this, they continuously work on physical training, vocalization, and speaking as well as ballet, jazz, Korean classical dance, musical and aria to build a firm foundation in order to be ready to become professional actors and actresses. Curriculum for design & technique major consists of three subdivisions of stage, lighting and costume, and each allows students to build professionalism through different levels of field trainings. Moreover the programs provide fundamental theory and technical courses in sound engineering, props, theatrical architecture and theater management that professional stage artists need to attain. Also, all these courses are designed to interconnect to each other while students are experiencing actual field knowledge through term projects and opportunities to direct performance stages. Besides, we expect our students to attain a broad range of knowledge of the field by providing various theoretical courses such as introduction to play, history of play, experiments on play, and etc.

Department Characteristics

We aim to focus on individual student to maximize his or her professionalism. As such we regularly have visiting professors who are active practitioners in current days and we maintain nationally well regarded facilities which include middle and small sized theaters (700 seats, 140 seats), studios 1, 2, device workshops, costume workshops, and design laboratories. Also, our effort to have a role of being the incubators of producing top-class stage art, led us to establishing professional theater company entitled <PCPA: Production Center for Performing Arts>. Upon finishing their study, students then advance to actor and actress in play, film, TV, designer in all areas, stage director, lighting director, and etc.
