It is our aim to foster dance artists who meet the demands of the present public expectation and yet with also having future-oriented perspective. Students are to become experts in the field under creative and professional teaching methods of our faculty which includes dance & arts theories and systematic performance classes. Graduates will have a wide range of employment opportunities through becoming a member in dance education, national, city, or private dance troupe, dancer (actor or actress) in dance or musical teams, choreographer, performance planning, lighting, and stage producer.

Program Objectives

Our main goal is to nurture dance & arts experts in the fields and professional instructors for the public. In addition, we expect the outcomes of our teaching and academic researches to enhance national prestige globally and domestically to develop, preserve, and buildup our traditional arts

Educational Goals

  • Gaining high level of competence as dance artist or dance instructor
  • Well-rounded elites in the field with harmonized body and soul

Education Programs

Our curriculum consists of two options of a concentration in Korean traditional dance and a concentration in Western dance. Concentrating in Western dance, students will receive professional education in dance, ballet, and also jazz dance which was introduced in 2000. In each program, during a freshman and a sophomore years students take basic theories and performance classes. In the third and the fourth years students then take in-depth professional performance classes. Besides the performance major classes, we give students opportunities to take academic courses of dance education, dance therapy, dance marketing to better foster excellent professionals in the fields who meet the demands of our society.

Department Characteristics

To develop creative talents of students our school hosts workshops every semester and students are required to present their work at the end of each year. Along with the integrated arts festival, we generate publicity for our school’s competence by participating in a wide range of domestic and international performance concerts. Every year, Yong-in University hosts nationwide competitions to discover prospective students and to build a solid reputation of our school. Our outstanding faculty of innovative choreographers and theorists are active participants in international seminars and performances in the US and Southeast Asian countries and such endeavors are led to the teachings of advanced up-to-date theories and performance techniques of the field. Likewise, our school strives to earn reputation of high standard education both nationally and internationally through creative programs conducted by our professors with global mindsets. Also, it is our wish to make consistent contribution to a globalization of our Korean traditional dances.
